We open up to Franky racing a real mustang on his custom built mecha-horse. It’s kinda weird that what I really take away from this picture is how ginormous Frankys shoulders are.

Shit is going down as the volcano nears its eruption and both ships proceed to haul ass away from the volcano, Robin criticizes the Krakens ”horrible” way of running while Sanji notices the pictures tied around his chest and starts to ogle pretty ladies. Well. I guess we all have our own priorities.

Anyhoo, the volcano erupts and starts spitting out lava, the rapid increase in water temperature causing the currents to swirl around so much that the umibozou and the Flying Dutchman fly right out of the picture… huh. Well, I bet they’ll be back later. Sanji tries to be cool yet fails miserably.

Nice try Sanji

Oh Sanji. And from just her back? Really? The octopus carries the crew to a steep precipice leading directly down to Fishman Island, freaking out Usopp and Chopper but spurring captain to order Surume to make the leap! And he does… only to have a rockslide send down tons of rubble and boulders after them! Fortunately Surume is an octopus who can swim and thus uses his water jets to shoot over to the other side and evade harm.

Just kidding. For some reason they just continue to fall, prompting Zoro to try and jump off ship to cut the rocks. Robin grabs him in time to tell him what a phenomenally bad idea this is since the pressure alone will kill his ass if he goes outside the bubble. So who can save the day?! Who can help them now! WE NEED A HERO, AND WHERE ELSE TO FIND ONE…

HOLDING OUT FOR AN USOPP TIL THE MORNING LIGHT

… But on the island in YOUR HEART. Oh yeah. OH YEAH. Mansopp baby- Mansopp is in ur oceans, savin ur crews! So badass. As everyone takes a timeout to ponder what a fine fellow that Mansopp is, a stray boulder unfortunately decks Surume and they once again fall down, down towards the bottom of the trench… where they are greeted by a sight that we’ve been waiting years for. Hold on now, people…

... Huh

… You’re, uh. You’re about to be grossly disappointed. I mean, really? That’s all? I guess it could be a more impressive sight when it’s seen close up because right now it looks like someone stuck a coral reef inside an air-bubble, man. Aaanyhoo, we’re reminded that Caribou exists, everyone dances and just as Sanji tries to start a Mermaid-kickline with Brook, we get this scene.

Oh Sanji. Live the dream

Oh, Sanji. Throughout it all… your dream… still shines true! We then get ANOTHER double page spread as we see that they are not alone on the bottom-

giraffe seahorse is awesome

-as a mysterious new figure makes his appearance…

Hello there mister possible arc villain!

Hamond tells them that while they DID put a stop to Arlongs ambitions, they also protected Hachi and attacked the Celestial Dragons, just like the hero of the Fishmen, Fisher Tiger. He then asks if the Strawhats will fall in line with his crew or if they will stand against him. Nami, predicting her captains answer tells the crew to get their asses in gear- redirect all the air they have into one big Coup de Vent in the hopes that they can bust right into the bubble before Luffy provokes the man easily capable of demolishing their tiny boat in a single move. This is where we all take a moment to thank our lucky stars for Namis existence, as it allows the rest of us to continue our own existences. Because Luffy, true to his kingly disposition and attitude, tells the fishmen pirates exactly what he thinks of them…

Busy chapter, this week. You had a lot of movement and hustle and bustle here, made it feel kinda rushed. We barely even see the Flying Dutchman until it’s time to say goodbye, and then it’s right on over to the next setting where the gang once AGAIN has to hurry up and move. I guess this is Oda going ”okay I’ve kept Fishman Island from you long enough so let’s get there already, no matter how quickly and haphazardly I have to introduce all the important plot points!”

Also, I guess I should reserve judgment on Fishman Island until I see it for myself. No single moment as glorious as a Kraken beating up a sea giant here (although I think we had some perspective fail in this chapter as the umibozou seemed MUCH larger last chapter than it did here), but the introduction of the New Fish Pirates and their symbols bode well for future drama…
