Ha ha ha SO GUESS WHO MISSED THERE WAS A CHAPTER LAST WEEK? Yeah. I blame school, but at any rate- here goes! Two chapters in a row!

We start off with revisiting Usopp’s old flame Kaya, under barrage by an army of suitors that is valiantly held at bay by Merry. For handsome as they may be, they are no match for MANSOPP, who will sweep in one day and the events that follow will be so sexalicious they shall cause the Harlequin company to spontaneously manifest in One Piece-verse.

Oh god this is hnng-worthy

This just in- Koala is adorable. News at eleven. The crew has found an eternal log pose that will point them right to her village and Hachi couldn’t be happier for Koalas sake. Koala herself?

Prince Alii mighty is- okay ima cut it out

Well, old habits die hard. The guy talking is Alladin, a goatsbeard brotula merman, and as soon as he opens his mouth Arlong chimes in with how Alladin probably knows how she feels what with how he was a SLAVE and all himself! God, Arlong is that friend- the friend who tells racist jokes ALL THE FUCKING TIME and thinks he’s hilarious because he’s ”edgy” and doesn’t let anything, including good taste, hold him back.

Arlong then starts ranting on how Alladin should kill Koala as the hatred towards fishmen they’ve witnessed on their journey will never end as parents will simply teach their children their own hatred, and the only way to stop it is to end the cycle by force. Jinbe interjects and tells Arlong he thinks humans seem to fear them more than hatet hem, and when he asks Koala why she’s afraid of them she replies that ”we don’t know anything about you”. Just as Otohime told him that they, fishfolk, know nothing of humans. Musing that maybe things will change if she gets to know them, Koala starts playing ”guess which hand” with Hachi, and man- you just can’t beat Hachi at that game. He is the best there is.

Also I love how Arlong says that if the boss wasn’t around he doesn’t know how many humans he would’ve killed. Good job presenting the argument that humanity will never change when you are practically the embodiment of every ugly fishman stereotype ever, Arlong.

Life on route to the island goes on and many a merry moment is had, as even Marco and his gang get involved in the laughs and cheers and snowmanconstruction that takes place. But all good things must end as the crew eventually reaches ”Fullshout Island”, Koalas home. But as Fisher starts walking Koala over there…

EVEN MORE HNNG WORTHY

… so adorable- Arlong starts up again. He doesn’t believe for one second that saving one little girl will make a difference: after all, they certainly didn’t change no matter how much Otohime preached to them, so why should humanity be any better? Koala is reunited with her mother and oh god these panels

ULTRAHHNG-

THESE GODDAMN PANELS.

Why am I so upset about them? Because of what awaits him outside the village…

Nnnngohshit betrayal

The Sun pirates ship is bombarded by marines and they split up- one group going after Fisher, the other stealing a ship from the marines. And as the wind carries the sounds of battle to the small village, Koala wonders why none of the other villagers can hear a single thing…

After the battle the Sun Pirates manage to escape on board a marine ship, but Fisher Tiger is in critical condition. He needs a transfusion of blood stat, but his blood type is so rare none of the other fishmen have it! Fortunately the ship has some human blood of that same type in stock, and just as Alladin is about to begin the procedure... Tiger refuses.

suddenly everything ever is depressing

Before his grief-stricken brothers, Fisher Tiger tells them the truth of his latest journey- that he had been captured and held as a slave in Mariejois, becoming a first hand witness to human prejudice and madness. He admits that he realizes there is no other option but co-existence if they wish to change the circumstances for fishfolk everywhere, he cannot bear to forgive, love, or accept the blood of a human being. As the others try to convince him to live, Fisher tells them that they must not let the story of his woes spread, as he hopes the next generation will grow up without hatred… and then passes on, a smile on his lips as he is told he will be remembered as a hero of Fishman Island.

But that is not how it ends. Later on we see Arlong return to the village to exact his revenge-

Borsalino- trollrolling since day one

but a certain someone lies in wait! What does this mean? What role will Kizaru play in future chapters? Honestly, not a whole lot- as we see in the next chapter.

We start off with a look at Johnny And Yosack, who are currently running a fishing boat. Huh. Well, hope that works out for them.

Arlong is brought in for questioning at a marine base and spills the details regarding Fisher Tigers death, blaming humans for fostering hatred in his heart and making him refuse the blood transfusion. But when Jinbe and Alladin read the news the following day, things aren’t quite that clear…

seen here- shoddy workmanship

Okay, apparently there was some confusion about translations and what not, but the story we’re currently going with seems to be that the newspaper writes the story to make it look like Fisher Tiger was refused a transfusion, and the Sun Pirates apparently believe that it was Arlong who lied to the newspapers in order to paint a nobler picture of his captain. Don’t know if a different translation will say otherwise, but that’s what we’re rolling with now. As another pirate ship emerges from the mists, Jinbe assumes command and gives the order to fight, but not to kill. As their captain would have it.

After becoming the next most wanted Sun Pirate, Jinbe writes a letter to king Neptune and queen Otohime telling them the truth about Fisher Tigers last moments, and Otohime sets out to double her efforts to spread the gospel of peace and love to the island!... It doesn’t work out very well. Bonus picture of adorable four year old Shirahoshi now-

... Daawww

-Because we’re going to need every bit of heartwarming cuteness we can get. As Queen Otohime sets out to convince the populace to emigrate from Fishman Island she is beset upon all sides by setbacks and obstacles. Despite helping shipwrecked crews, educating the island’s children of the world above ground and going signaturehunting every single day the populace of the island, five million strong (which must make it HELLA overcrowded) refuse to move out, reasoning that if Fisher Tiger couldn’t find favor within the hearts of humans, how could the rest of them?

… Which is kind of weird considering that Fisher Tiger went directly against the human government and as such couldn’t expect anything BUT to be chased, but I guess that we’re supposed to not mind such slips because the fishfolk are largely ignorant of the conditions above water. And speaking of off things we’re not supposed to mind- after a particularly harrowing day where ALL the signatures she’s worked to assemble over the course of FIVE YEARS get taken back, this happens

... Awww

Followed by this-

Otohime is a Ceeloo Green fan

Yeah. Shit just hit the bottle. Otohime starts berating her people for being content with simply living as they always have on one tiny little speck under the ocean floor, when they could have so much more light and so much more air above ground. She asks them why they think their children are always sneaking off the spy on the lights off the surface-world, and that if they simply stop thinking of humans as nothing but a threat they can find a new life waiting for them up there aaaand here is when I start raising eyebrows.

See, here’s the deal. Otohime is behaving as if Fishman Island is this total utter DUMP that has no future or no possibilities to improve or live a decent life in, and I’m just not seeing it! Maybe it’s the nature of the condensed storytelling here, but so far what we’ve seen of Fishman Island is awesome! It’s got a luxury district! It’s not like it’s Shanghai, a city so crowded people are practically living like canned tuna, but instead people are happy, generally cool and seem to be living fulfilling lives on Fishman Island.

Now, I know that pirates often kidnap the fishfolk and trade them like slaves. I know that ever since the age of piracy began it was repeatedly put under pressure by pirates, and that fishfolk suffer greatly from opression and so on and so forth, but isn’t that all the more reason to NOT head up to the surface? Also the Fishman Island we’ve been presented with in this story so far has shown NOTHING of all the horrible things we’ve been told repeatedly happen there. We’ve just been TOLD it’s bad, not SHOWN. Hell if I was a fishman or a merman my reply to Otohimes constant badgering demands that I leave my relatively safe haven where fishfolk can live together in peace for an uncertain future above the waves would go a little something like… this.

Disney- encouraging underwater-overwater apartheid since 1989.

I’m not saying I don’t see where she’s coming from, I just wish that Oda could have devoted more time to sell us a world where her message actually rings true. Make us believe it’s a bad idea for fishfolk to stay under the water instead of the opposite, man. BUT ENOUGH OF ALL THAT JAZZ let’s go visit Jinbe, who just received an invitation to become a shichibukai and OH MY GOD

LET THE EPILEPTIC TREES GROW

THAT BAT IS THE EXACT SAME BAT THAT VISITED BUGGY I think there is pretty much no way that he’s not been named a shichibukai by now. That is absolutely crazy. Anyway Jinbe tells his crew, much to their surprise, that he plans to accept the nomination. That way, as he explains during a talk with Neptune, he plans to get a government pardon for those of his crew who wants to stop living like pirates, and have fishfolk take one step closer to entering the government and co-existing with humans. Neptune agrees while Hodi creeps around in odd panels and flash several disturbing faces, and when Jinbe finally goes to bring Arlong with him… yeah. Arlong isn’t having any of that. He announces his intentions to reform the Arlong Pirates and take the former slaves with him, and if Jinbe wants to stop him he better strike him down here and now!

Thank you Jinbe. Thank you

Jinbe obliges. He doesn’t kill him of course, just roughs him up for disrespecting Tigers wishes. Alladin assures Jinbe that it doesn’t matter what Arlong does, as he will either be handled by the marines or, if he causes enough of a ruckus, they will come and put a stop to his ambition. Yeah. Great planning there guys. And so the Sun pirates split up as Arlong take those loyal to him to form his old crew again and Marco reforms his old slave trader gang. And life goes on until one day, when a giant shipwreck demands emergency entrance to Fishman Island- a ship carrying Tenryuubito! Otohime rushes off to greet them, and as all readers know Tenryuubito in a flashback NEVER ever means anything good…

Words just come so easily when they are used to describe MANSOPP.

Also let us not even lie here, what Kaya is writing is really this

But with MANSOPP in it's place. In a twenty mile radius, hearts were shot. Pirates turned gay. It was awesome.
