… And the rest is silence.

Of course we don’t see a body so who really knows, but whatever.

On a brighter note, Dadan makes it home… carried on Ace’s back. THAT is impressive. They apparently beat Bluejam (we better see that that fight expanded on in the anime), burst through the flames like two bats out of hell, hid by a riverbank where the flames wouldn’t reach them and then Ace stole medicine and nursed Dadan back to health. Aaww, they DO care. Dadan then asks ace why he couldn’t just run away, and Ace answers that sometimes he gets so agitated that all he can think of is that he needs to protect what’s important to him: Luffy. This summons a flashback from Dadan who remember when Garp told her Gol Roger was exactly the same…



Not the best trait to inherit, me thinks. The treacherous peace bought by Ace and Dadans return is shattered however, when Dogura brings the new about Sabo. It is handled about as well as you would expect it to be handled.



But before Ace can rush to enact bloody vengeance, Dadan lays down the law. If Ace goes to fight the nobles he’ll be killed in an instant and nothing will change, because that’s how small and insignificant he truly is. Unless he can find the strength to change the world, he should just sit down, grit his teeth and bear it.

Quite a thing to tell the boy whose death ended up changing the world.

Dadan then ties Ace up to keep him pacified while Luffy bawls his eyes out, which Ace angrily reprimans him for: a man does not cry so easily! However… the next morning Ace and Luffy receive a letter from Sabo, sent before his departure, and when Ace goes to read it elsewhere…









… He discovers that holding back the tears isn’t as easy as he’d like it to be.

And on that somber note, we near the end of our flashback. There can’t be much left now until we return to an all too sorrowful present, even worse than the past we now leave behind. I give it about one more chapter, tops. Then it’s back to now and hopefully… back to nakama.

Oh, and there was also a color page-spread of uf all looking mighty dapper, except for Sanji. Bowler hat and no shirt? No. Just… no.
